Outreach
Serving local families has become an integral part of Beauty for Ashes since opening our doors in 2004. Being strategically located near an inner city community, we have a wonderful opportunity make a positive impact on our neighbors' lives. God has increased our ability to serve them through various outreaches- from our monthly grocery outreach to our community movie nights, we love reaching our community in creative ways!
Our outreach team delivers groceries to over 20 families every month. The Virginia Peninsula Foodbank and the USDA make it possible for us feed these families.
Christmas Outreach
Our annual Christmas Outreach is our biggest event of the year. The event features a free movie on the big screen (we are licensed and authorized to show movies to the public), popcorn and soda, goodie bags for the kids, and groceries for the family. We also provide the families that attend with free clothes and household items. We look forward to this fun outreach all year long. It has proven to be a great way to share the gospel during the Christmas season.
Easter Cookout Outreach
Over the past four years God has strategically moved seven families at BFA into the Denbigh Mobile Home Community that is located behind our church. One of the ways we have chosen to serve our neighbors in that community is by having an annual Easter Cookout. The week before Easter we show up with hot dogs, hamburgers, candy and the Love of Jesus. We have an Easter egg hunt for the kids and an Easter dinner basket drawing. Lisa Muncy oversees all of our local outreaches at Denbigh Mobile Home Community.
Take Back The Night For The Light Outreach
God made every single day including October 31st! We want to take back that night for the light of Jesus! Our goal is to be a light in a night filled with darkness. You can join us in Taking Back the Night by doing this in your own neighborhood.
What you can do to participate:
-
Decorate your porch with colorful lights and festive, family-friendly stuff.
-
Play trendy Christian music!
-
Have the BEST goodie bags in the WHOLE neighborhood! (The kids will love you for it.)
-
Throw a little gospel message in the treat bags.
-
Hand out some brochures or flyers from your church.
-
Keep the festivities at your house upbeat, positive, and Halloween-symbol-free!
-
Don’t be critical of Halloween and don't preach at the young folks.
-
Just show them the Light and let the Holy Spirit take it from there!
Family Movie Nights
With the increasing costs of going to the movie theater, it’s great to have a place to show clean, fun movies on big screen that the whole family can enjoy. We invite our neighbors to Family Movie Nights complete with popcorn and soda. We are licensed through CCLI to show movies to the public.
